Conducting Market Research: Analyzing Your Competition

Before starting your body contouring business, it’s important to conduct thorough market research to understand your competition and the demand for such services in your area. This research will help you identify your competitors, their strengths and weaknesses, and gaps in the market that you can fill.

Identify Your Competitors

Make a list of all the businesses that offer body contouring services in your area. This could include aesthetic clinics, medical spas, and standalone body contouring centers.

Assess Their Strengths and Weaknesses

Once you’ve identified your competitors, research their websites, social media pages, and customer reviews. Take note of what they do well and where they fall short. Use this information to differentiate your own business and offer a unique value proposition.

Find Gaps in the Market

Look for areas where your competitors may be lacking, such as specialized services, unique technology, or exceptional customer service. Filling these gaps can help position your business as a standout in the market.

Remember, analyzing your competition is not about copying what others do, but rather using their strengths and weaknesses to create your own unique value proposition and stand out in the market.

Creating a Business Plan: Essential Elements for Success

Starting a body contouring business requires a thoroughly researched and well-executed business plan. Your business plan should cover the following essential elements:

Define Your Business Objectives

Begin by defining your short-term and long-term business objectives. This includes your financial goals, expansion plans, and target market. Your business objectives will serve as a roadmap to success and keep you focused on your goals.

Marketing Plan

The marketing plan should outline your marketing strategy, target audience, and customer acquisition tactics. It should also detail the ways in which you will differentiate your services from the competition and highlight your unique selling points. This will help you develop a strong brand identity and establish a competitive edge in the market.

Financial Plan

Your financial plan should include your start-up costs, projected revenue, and break-even analysis. It should also detail your operating expenses, cash flow projections, and funding sources. This will help you secure the necessary funding and effectively manage your finances.

Operations Plan

Your operations plan should outline the day-to-day operations of your business, including staffing, equipment, and supply needs. This will help you ensure that you have all the necessary resources and systems in place to provide high-quality services to your clients.

This includes liability protection, insurance coverage, and emergency preparedness plans. This will help you protect your business and ensure continuity of operations in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

By addressing these essential elements, you can develop a comprehensive business plan that will help you succeed in the competitive body contouring industry.

What next?

It’s easy to come up with a list of roadblocks that stand in the way of starting your business. Creating a list of opportunities right in front of you is often more difficult. If the idea of beginning a business with no money makes you nervous, take a moment to consider what you can live without right now.

What are the most important aspects of your company? When you’ve only perfected three things for your new store, do you really need a sleek, custom-designed website? Instead, you might create a Facebook page to advertise your local business. Would it make more sense for you to use Canva to create your own marketing materials? Would you be willing to trade your services for someone else’s?

To say there are multiple free resources available on the internet would be an understatement. Make a list of everything you’ll need for your firm, and then look for free alternatives on the internet. It may take some time, and you may need to learn some new digital skills, but you’ll save money when you need it most.

Bounce Ideas

When starting a business, there are so many factors to consider that it can be overwhelming. But you’ve got this! To avoid unpleasant surprises, you should begin by being prepared. Use the internet, make lists, do the math, and talk to your pals. From time management to family and finances, you must have studied every facet of how establishing a business would influence you.

GET A BUSINESS PLAN

Are your finances ready?

Taking money out of your savings account isn’t ideal, to be sure. Nonetheless, it’s a rather typical habit among business owners. Be honest with yourself while creating your company plan regarding how much money you’ll spend and how much money you’ll likely make. Then, be honest with yourself about how long it will take you to make a profit. It usually takes at least six months for any money to start rolling in. Set a goal of saving at least six months’ worth of living expenses so you can focus on your new venture.

What about business structure?

You must decide whether you will operate as a lone trader, partnership, trust, or corporation. Each structure has its own set of benefits and drawbacks, as well as tax reporting obligations, so it’s a good idea to enlist the help of a skilled financial consultant or civil lawyer. Set up a partnership structure and agreement if you’re going into business with a friend.

You name it

Every country has its own website where you can apply for registration by filling out your personal information. It’s critical to conduct a trademark check to ensure that your company name isn’t too similar to another’s, or you risk facing legal issues. While you’re at it, secure your company’s website names and social media usernames.

GET A BRANDING PLANNER

Create a website and social channels

Any business must have an internet and social media presence. Although this may be a chore best left to the professionals, there are numerous DIY website builders to select from, including Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, and WordPress.

If you need help setting up your website or social media, there are some inexpensive choices available, such as Fiverr or Upwork, which can set things up for you for a modest charge. GET A SOCIAL MEDIA PLANNER

Funding yourself without finance

Using your own money is the greatest method to start a business, but this isn’t always possible. It’s sometimes preferable to get started producing money right away.

You can always start with a scaled-down version of your dream salon if you want to avoid finance but don’t have all the funds you need to start the perfect salon. Go mobile or clean out the spare room at home. People like the “come to you” beauty option since it eliminates the need for a physical location and all of the associated expenses.

Begin by purchasing the treatments you can afford and work your way up from there. Whatever you decide ….Just start!

Your Social Media Account

We all live in a world that is dominated by social media. Social networking is a method for people to stay in touch with their friends, family, and favourite businesses and brands. It is critical for salons to have social media accounts in this digital age. Unfortunately, having an account isn’t enough; target clients and potential clients must desire to visit and follow the page. Many salon owners struggle to encourage their consumers to engage with their social media accounts and glance at them. It must be interactive, informative, fascinating, and fun for customers and new customers to look at the page. Here are five strategies for increasing traffic to your salon’s social media pages.

Tips for Social Media Traffic

Contest and Giveaways. People enjoy winning prizes and receiving free cosmetics. For example, provide someone who likes/follows your page a free add-on treatment or a beauty product in exchange for reposting the competition rules. This will help you acquire visibility to potential clients by increasing traffic and attracting new visitors to your page.
Offering discounts on items or services in exchange for group deals is a great method to convert visitors into followers.

After the customers have received their treatment, ask whether you can take images of them and tag them on social media. Make sure you get a signed photo release. GET SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

Some customers are ecstatic when they receive a discount on beauty items or services. Others are intrigued by freebies! Offering exclusive promotions and discounts on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter may be a fantastic method to entice customers and future customers to like and follow the salon’s page.

Discounts should be used with caution, as you don’t want your clients to expect a discount every time they visit you. This isn’t a very profitable scenario. Discounts and sales should be used sparingly; you want it to feel like a treat, not a right.

To a salon or clinic, word of mouth is everything, therefore encouraging consumers to share, retweet, or mention your salon in a post is crucial. People use social media as a reference; if they see others post a few products, services, locations, or events, that firm or destination gains credibility. So, if your customers share, retweet, or tag the salon in a post, give them something unique. The more people who know about your salon, the better.

Showcase how great your salon’s staff is, and people will rush to the page and the doors. Post photographs of the before and after. People are astounded at the metamorphosis that occurs from the beginning to the end. This shows customers your salon’s unique skill set and breadth of talent.

You can also use videos to promote your salon’s talent. People always try to figure out how to accomplish the latest trends, so demonstrate them. How-to videos are a fantastic way to attract new consumers to your salon’s website and have your material spread.

Tags/Hashtags are essential for social media presence. Using hashtags and geotags is one of the most effective strategies to increase traffic. Hashtags are a way for individuals to find things on social media that they are interested in. They’ll be able to find you thanks to geotags. Combining the two will help you attract locals to your salon or clinic.

Get insured

If you’re going into business you are going to need insurance public liability insurance, professional indemnity insurance and workers’ compensation are “incredibly essential” and companies should throw in director and officer insurance, too.

Seek expert advice from a financial consultant or a reputable accountant on the best way to structure your assets.

Set up accounting and booking systems

There are a number of excellent salon booking systems available, some of which are free or free to test. Check out all of the charges before committing; switching over if it becomes too pricey can be extremely tough.

When it comes to record-keeping, every business has legal and tax requirements, and it pays to get it right the first time.

You can go the traditional route and hire an accountant, or you can use one of the many commercial small-business accounting software packages available, such as Intuit QuickBooks Online, MYOB, or Xero.

Do you need an Accountant?

  • Are you able to handle your accounts on your own or do you require the services of a professional?
  • Do you require assistance in forming an entity?
  • Are you aware of your company’s tax implications?
  • I would advise you to hire a professional accountant since he or she will be able to maximise your tax savings while also handling all of the time-consuming and difficult work for you.
  • Whenever possible, go to someone who has been recommended to you.

What about banking?

You don’t need a business bank account if you’re a sole trader, but it’s a good idea to have one anyhow. You don’t have to pore through your account every month to maintain track of business costs.

If you run your business as a partnership, corporation, or trust, you’ll need a separate bank account for tax purposes.

Understand your legal responsibilities and obligations under fair trading law. To learn more about labelling and packing standards, inventory management and systems, warehousing and distribution, warranties and refunds, consumer law compliance, and payments and invoicing, go to the appropriate government website in your city/state.

You may need to set up a business entity, register a business name, and apply for a business number. Check with the government website in your state or country to ensure you are starting and operating your business legally.

What about Staff?

If you have employees (or intend to hire them in the future), you should be familiar with the agreements you’re paying under and ensure you have contracts in place that spell out your (and their) rights and responsibilities. This is something you should discuss with your accountant.

Finding beauty suppliers

Do you require items or equipment? It’s as simple as typing “manufacturer,” “wholesale,” or “supply” into Google to find sources, but make sure you do your homework beforehand.

Shop around; you want quality, but you also need to be able to afford it, or you won’t be able to make any money. If you can locate companies that offer private labels, you will be able to expand your company’s social media profile. Clients enjoy posting images of themselves using their new and favourite goods on social media.

First of all, let’s decide on what your need:

Decide what treatments you want to offer

  • What skills do you have or can you quickly learn?
  • What types of therapies do you prefer?
  • Do you prefer machine-assisted or hand-assisted treatments?
  • What therapies will generate the greatest revenue for each treatment?
  • What services are offered by salons and home therapists in your area?
  • What kind of customers do you wish to attract?
  • What kind of treatment options do you want to provide?
  • How much equipment do you think you’ll need and how much money do you have to spend?

Research Equipment

What do you need in terms of equipment for the treatments you intend to provide? You want to be sure that the equipment you acquire and the services you provide will bring you the most profit.

  • How much room do you have available?
  • How much money do you have to spend?
  • Which device provides the most value for money?
  • How much manual labour is required, and what does the machine accomplish?
  • Do you prefer brand new or do you prefer second hand?
  • Is a moveable couch something you want or not? If not, do you prefer a static or an electric couch?

Choose what products you want to use

  • Do you wish to appeal to a specific demographic, such as vegans, organics, or anti-aging?
  • Do you want your own brand (private label) on the products?
  • If you choose a professional product, what is the minimum opening order?
  • What kinds of products do you think your target market might be interested in?
  • Are you planning to sell as well as use the products?
  • Do you want to provide many product lines?
  • How much emphasis will you place on product retailing?
  • What kind of products do your therapies necessitate?

Purchase sufficient supplies

Aside from your equipment and materials, you’ll need a lot of towels, masks, gloves, and sheets for your sofa, as well as slippers and gowns if you’re undergoing any treatments.

Price your treatments

Clients rarely shop for beauty treatments only on the basis of pricing. Many clients would believe that your services are inferior if you price them too low. We’ve discovered that pricing in the middle of your area’s price range is the most desirable.

Clients have a higher perceived value in sales and treatment packages than in a low starting price.

  • Clients always love freebies and gifts so save some room in your budget for treats!
  • What is the going rate for at your competitors?
  • How much should you charge per hour/treatment to break even?
  • Will the treatments you’ve chosen pay you a decent hourly fee for your time?
  • Do you want to start expanding your customer by offering special introductory prices?

Create a Treatment Menu

A printed A4 sheet from your home printer won’t cut it if you want your treatment menu to look professional and inviting. There are a many online print companies where you can design your menu and get prints at low prices.

What design and colours are most appropriate for your company?

  • What kind of design do you want? Is it better to make a simple DL flyer or a folding brochure?
  • What is the maximum number of treatments you wish to provide on the menu?
  • Do you want to focus on one or a few treatments, or do you want to offer a wide range of services?

Create a marketing strategy

Whether you have a large budget or are on a shoestring budget, make sure to communicate your “why” with the world and engage with people on social media. Using keywords appropriate to your target demographic and SEO tactics to increase your Google ranking, you can attract customers to your site by creating content through a blog.

When you’re ready to go public, look for DIY public relations kits or use a service like Handle Your Own PR to help you.

  • How much money and time do you have to spend on marketing?
  • What kinds of advertisements do you prefer to see?
  • What kinds of advertisements would bring in the most customers?
  • What kind of advertising would you use to attract the clientele you’re looking for? Leaflet drops, local stores, local papers, local publications, local newsletters, and word of mouth are some of the methods used.
  • Remember that word-of-mouth advertising is frequently the most effective type of marketing, so try drumming up business with friends and neighbours and let them do the talking.
  • Set up a ‘referral scheme’, for example, and offer rewards. If an existing client refers a new client, the old client receives a 10% discount on their next treatment.

Opening offers/sales

It may be beneficial to attract customers with opening deals in order to get them through the door. You can either provide a monetary discount (specified amounts or percentages) or a complementary treatment with any or all treatments (for example, a complimentary back massage with every facial booked).

This can also assist you in promoting remedies that you prefer or are knowledgeable about.

What about a premises?

If you want to open a physical location, you’ll need to determine whether to purchase a commercial property, equipment, or sign a commercial lease. However, obtain professional advice from accountants and solicitors before signing anything.

They’ll know what’s ideal for your company as well as the tax ramifications of each alternative. Don’t forget to arrange a fantastic launch party now that you’re up and running!

Do you want to work from home?

Before you spend any money on establishing your business, you must first determine whether it is fit for a home-based beauty therapy business. You need to consider the following:

  • Do you have a separate entrance to your treatment room or easy access to it?
  • Is the space suitable for the therapies you intend to provide?
  • Is there a bathroom available?
  • Is there parking available for your customers?
  • Is there any security or gates that make it difficult for your clients to get in?
  • What are the rules of your local government?

Are you going to rent/buy a premises?

  • Is a full-service salon required, or can you hire a room in an existing clinic?
  • What are your responsibilities in terms of rent? Do you have to pay any rates or other expenses for your stay?
  • How much would the premises cost you per month, including all expenses?
  • How do your outgoings fit into your financial plan?
  • How many treatments are required to cover the costs?
  • How much of your weekly income will be spent on rent?
  • Will you be able to pay your rent and make a livelihood if you don’t have enough customers?

What about the phone?

  • Do you want to utilise your existing land line for both business and home, or do you want to set up a second land line for business, or just use a mobile line for business?
  • It’s probably better to keep your personal and professional lives separate, and you’ll need an answering service regardless, as you won’t be able to take calls while in treatment.
  • While in treatments, make sure your phone/phone/answer phone is turned to “silent” and, ideally, keep it outside the room entirely.

Contact your local council

Find out what actions you need to take to work from home or open a salon by contacting your local government.

The council’s approval will be contingent on a variety of factors, including parking, salon setup, and even special neighbourhood restrictions.

The majority of the criteria are related to health and safety (see below). After you’ve finished the job, the council will do another inspection, and if they’re satisfied, you can start administering treatments.

Decide your opening hours

Do you want to stay open late? Do you wish to open on Saturdays and Sundays? What kind of customers do you hope to attract, and when will they be able to visit you?

Fat Freezing Cryolipolysis Course

Fat Freezing Cryolipolysis

What is Fat Freezing?

Fat Freezing is a non-invasive treatment that helps get rid of excess fat cells underneath your skin.

Cryotechnology is the controlled application of low temperature (vacuum-assisted) cooling which is applied to a particular target area for a period of time causing the fat cells to break/crystallise, resulting in a reduction of body fat without damaging the surrounding tissue. It is a non-invasive procedure that protects the surrounding tissue structures.

During a Cryo Sculpting procedure, the technician uses an apparatus to cool certain parts of your body to freezing temperature. The procedure freezes and kills fat cells in the part of your body that you’re having treated. Within a few weeks of treatment, these dead fat cells are naturally broken down and flushed out of your body through your liver.

What Types of Fat can Body Sculpting Treat?

Ultrasound Cavitation VS Cryolipolysis Fat Freezing

Ultrasound Cavitation VS Cryolipolysis Fat Freezing

There is no doubt that both technologies are well-known and widely used within the beauty industry. There are many online reviews of the results that can be achieved. Comparing their differences does not aim to find out which treatment is “better” than the other. Instead, it is more meaningful to discover which treatment is more suitable in which circumstances and whether or not they can be combined.

What is Ultrasound Cavitation treatment and how it works?

Cavitation, also known as Fat Cavitation or Cavitation Liposuction, utilizes low a frequency ultrasound (ranging from 28 to 42kHz, usually around 40kHz) to penetrate the fat deposit tissue beneath the dermis layer. Ultrasound frequency of around 40kHz is not sensitive to tissue-like epidermis, dermis, muscle or bone, but it is sensitive to fat tissue. The 40kHz ultrasound will resonate with the membranes of the fat cells and destroy the entire fat cells. This is called the “Cavitation” effect. The broken fat cells are then identified by the body and naturally expelled. Macrophages cells will come along to clear the broken fat cells and the released free fatty acid will be drained to the blood circulation and decomposed in the liver.

-Cavitation Advantages

This treatment method is non-invasive, not painful and does not require anaesthesia. For the customer, there is no downtime needed and no or minimal side effects. The treatment targets localised fat tissue to contour the body while the total weight is reduced. For example, if a female customer wants to reduce her waist circumference and sizes of thighs while wanting to keep her buttocks chubby, Cavitation Lipo treatment can do this.

What is Cryolipolysis Fat freezing and how it works?

Cryolipolysis uses a low temperature (+5 to -1.5 Celsius) to freeze the fat cells. In this temperature range, the fat cells are frozen yet causes no harm to other tissue (dermis, muscle, fascia). The frozen fat cells will be identified by the macrophages cells and be cleared from the body naturally.

-Cryolipolysis Advantages

This treatment method is non-invasive and does not require anaesthesia. For the customer, no downtime is needed and most will feel coldness on the targeted area during the treatment. The treated area will turn red after treatment and will remain red for a few hours post-treatment. Usually, there is no need to treat the redness, it will fade and go away naturally. Cryolipolysis can be used on targeted areas such as the abdomen, tummy, flanks, thighs, waist, etc. So for example, if a male customer has a fat deposit just on the tummy and the other area like the legs, arms are not concerning him, then the use of Cryolipolysis to freeze the tummy fat only is appropriate.

Differences Between Cavitation and Cryolipolysis—-How to Choose?

As described above, Cryolipolysis and Cavitation are not overriding each other. Comparing the differences is more significant to understand in which circumstances which treatment provides the best results.

1. Differences in Fat Loss Theory
Cavitation utilizes 40kHz ultrasound waves to break the fat cells and the Cryolipolysis uses controlled low temperature (close to 0 Celsius) to freeze the fat cells.

2. Differences in Feelings to the treatment
For Ultrasound Cavitation treatment, the customer will feel a ringing in the head during treatment. This feeling is similar to travelling through a tunnel by train. This sensation stops once the Cavitation handpiece is removed from the skin. For Cryolipolysis treatment, the customer will experience a mild cold or numb feeling on the targeted area. This sensation will reduce and cease in a few hours. Both treatments are not harmful.

3. Differences in Instant and Future Results
Ultrasound Cavitation results are immediately visible after each session. In contrast, as the body requires time to eliminate the frozen fat cells, Cryolipolysis results will take some time to show.

4. Differences in Treatment Course
Cavitation results are immediate but not always stable. As such more sessions are required to reach the desired goal. in contrast, Cryolipolysis results take longer to show but the results are much more stable. therefore, fewer sessions will be needed to reach the desired goal.

5. Differences in Operating Skills
The Cavitation handpiece must be moved in order to focus the ultrasound energy on the entire targeted area. In contrast, the Cryolipolysis handpiece doesn’t require moving around the skin. It is fixed on the very targeted area until the treatment is complete.

6. Differences in Indication
Both Cavitation and Cryolipolysis are suitable for the removal of localised fat. Both will reduce fat in a specific area without affecting the overall fat metabolism of the body. If someone has a stubborn fat deposit that does not reduce via diet or exercise, then either method will help. Both treatments are available to men and women and are a personal preference.

Combining RF Cavitation and Cryolipolysis

Combining Cavitation and Cryolipolysis is highly recommend. Each customer has the same goal: reduce the fat and reduce it fast and permanently. After comparing both treatments, we understand that Cavitation reduces fat fast and Cryolipolysis keeps the fat reduced permanently. So combining both treatments will make the fat loss results faster and more permanent.

Ultrasonic Cavitation RF and Cryolipolysis Sculpting all have a place and can be used for different treatments.

Overview:-

Cryolipolysis is a beauty treatment that relies on controlled cooling for non-invasive localised fat reduction in problematic areas of the body. It is a way to reshape body contours.
Cryolipolysis is suitable for treating moderate and dense localised fat that appears in different body areas, such as the abdomen, flanks (side of the body between the ribs and hips), arms, back (especially the bra area), knees and subtrochanteric area (hip to thigh region). The cooling technique penetrates around 2cm below the skin’s surface and is highly effective in treating and reducing adipose tissue in the surrounding area, without disturbing the normal temperature of the epidermis.

Cavitation (also known as Fat Cavitation or Ultrasound-Cavitation) is a non-invasive and pain-free fat reduction treatment. It’s a true alternative to Lipo-Surgery as it avoids surgical operations and anaesthetics, which makes it risk-free.

Cavitation is a skin treatment based on ultrasonic waves. Low-frequency ultrasounds reduce fat by depleting fat cells under the skin. A single session can remove up to 1 to 1.5 cm in body contour. Six to twelve sessions in localised areas may remove up to 12 cm. Cavitation, has become and proves to be the most effective treatment in reducing cellulite.

What are the basic differences between Cryolipolysis and Cavitation?

Cryolipolysis and Cavitation have similarities as they both are non-invasive treatments against localised fat, have no side effects and the effectiveness of both treatments is based on the rupture of the membrane of the adipocyte in order to remove fat.

But what are the main differences between them?

– Fat reduction method: Cavitation uses ultrasounds whilst Cryolipolysis operates with controlled low temperatures focused on the problematic area.

– Results:
Cavitation: results are perceived faster, but sometimes the effects are not as durable or definite.
– Cryolipolisis: Results may take longer to be achieved and generally are only noticeable about a month after the start of the treatment, but they are more stable and durable.
– Number of sessions: To get the same effects in the same area, Cavitation requires a greater number of sessions compared to Cryolipolysis.
Therapist skills: Results achieved with Cavitation do not depend exclusively on the equipment used, but also on the skills of the expert who applies the treatment. Results achieved with Cryolipolysis generally do not depend on the skills of the person operating the equipment.

Combining Cryolipolysis and Cavitation
Salons and clinics are seeing the benefits of combining Cryolipolysis, Cavitation, Radiofrequency for a more effective cellulite fighting, skin firming and body slimming treatment. Combining them, localised fat on the body and face can be treated but also tightens the skin around the area.

1st Cryolipolysis
Cryolipolysis reduces body fat without damaging other tissues. The fat then enters the liver through the lymphatic system, is decomposed and leaves the body via the urinary tract.

2nd Cavitation
Cavitation is a type of ultrasound treatment that works effectively for cellulite reduction and local fat loss.

3rd Radiofrequency
For further fat or cellulite reduction, collagen building and skin firming.

The combination of Cryolipolysis, Radiofrequency and Cavitation comprise the most powerful and comprehensive technology available today for the treatment of cellulite, skin laxity and localised fat deposits on the face and body.

However, it is important to remember it that can take up to a few weeks to see the results.

Fat Freezing what is it?

Consultation and Client FAQ’s

It is important to explain the risks to your client prior to the treatment.  It is also important to ensure the client is eligible for a fat freezing treatment and doesn’t have any medical condition which makes them an unsuitable candidate for treatment.

What are the risks and what the client should expect during the treatment?

Although research is still limited, Fat Freezing is generally viewed as a safer, non-invasive type of fat reduction surgery than traditional procedures, such as liposuction.
Most people do not feel anything during the procedure, aside from a tugging sensation where the skin is between the device’s two cooling panels.

As the procedure does not involve any cutting, tissue manipulation, or anesthesia, most people do not need any recovery time and can immediately resume normal activities.
The only noticeable side effects of the procedure tend to be minor and occur only around the area of treatment. Most minor side effects reduce or go away within a few days to weeks after the procedure.

It is normal, however, to experience numbness or loss of sensation in the treatment area for around a month.
Common immediate side effects of Fat Freezing include:

  • redness
  • firmness
  • pinching sensation
  • minor swelling
  • tenderness
  • bruising
  • stinging
  • tingling
  • numbness
  • skin sensitivity
  • mild to moderate pain
  • muscle cramping

A person may continue to experience these side effects for a few weeks after the procedure. Other common side effects that a person may experience in the first few weeks after Fat Freezing include:

  • itchiness, especially a few days after the procedure
  • diarrhoea, as dead fat cells are removed from the body
  • a feeling of fullness in the throat after treatments involving the neck or chin region
What areas can be treated?

Fat freezing is  effective on a limited number of body areas. Body regions where Fat Freezing is considered safe and effective for removing minor fat deposits include:

  • abdomen
  • thighs
  • under the chin or upper neck
  • flanks
  • under the armpit
  • back
  • buttocks and under the buttocks
Who shouldn’t have a fat freezing treatment?

Fat freezing is considered a safe, effective way to reduce the number of fat cells in a small target area. It is not considered a form of weight loss and is not recommended for the treatment of obesity.

The procedure is designed to help dissolve stubborn fat cells that usually only shrink through diet and exercise.

People with weakened immune systems are not ideal candidates for treatments such as fat freezing. People with certain conditions that weaken or change the body’s ability to handle the cold can also experience serious medical complications. Conditions that rule out the use of Fat Freezing include:

  • pregnancy, attempting to become pregnant, and breast-feeding
  • cryoglobulinemia, a disorder where proteins that usually only increase in response to cold are in abnormally high concentrations
  • cold agglutinin disease, an autoimmune condition where temperature change kills red blood cells
  • paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, a condition where red blood cells die in response to temperature change
  • Raynaud’s disease
  • chilblains
  • reduced circulation or skin sensation at the treatment area
  • nerve conditions, such as diabetic neuropathy
  • skin conditions related to the immune system, such as eczema and psoriasis
  • inflammatory skin conditions, such as dermatitis and hives
  • a recent injury to the skin area being treated, including scar tissue
  • long-term use of blood thinning medications
  • bleeding conditions that thin the blood
  • history of a hernia or a hernia in or near the treatment area
  • active, implanted medical devices, such as pacemakers
  • allergy to propylene glycol or isopropyl alcohol
  • chronic pain conditions
  • severe anxiety disorders
The Benefits V’s Risks Fat Freezing Treatments

The procedure can be done in a technicians office or your home: Instead of having to go to the hospital, you can easily have this procedure done in the comfort of your doctor’s office during your lunch break.

There is no pain: While you might feel a sucking sensation during the treatment along with feeling cold in the area of concentration, the overall treatment does not hurt.

There is no downtime: You can get this procedure done and go right back to work the same day. You don’t have to worry about taking it easy or about changing any bandages.

The results are impressive: You’ll be able to see results within a few treatments and they will last as long as you continue with a healthy diet and exercise regimen.

The Cons of Cryo Sculpting Treatments

While this type of treatment can be an excellent choice for many who want to look and feel their best without undergoing surgery, there are things to consider beforehand. This is not a treatment that will help anyone who is severely overweight. This treatment is for people who need help with unwanted bulges in problem areas that they have not been able to get rid of on their own with diet and exercise.

Common Side Effects

There are also some side effects to consider before you undergo any Cryo Sculpting treatments. Below are a few of the common side effects some people have endured after their treatment:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Reduced sensation in targeted area

While these side effects can be bothersome, they are temporary and won’t stop you from going about your day-to-day routine. This type of treatment does not harm the skin cells or the muscle tissues since it does not cut into the area, just merely massages and freezes the unwanted fat cells.

Extreme Side Effects

The common side effects are the ones that most people endure after their Cryo Sculpting procedure, but there are certain occasions where others have experienced more severe problems such as the following:

  • Extreme pain around the area
  • Severe numbing on the skin
  • Bloated along the area of contact

How Long Will Side Effects Last?

The common side effects of redness, bruising and swelling can occur right after the treatment and last for a day or a couple of weeks. Usually, these side effects are not permanent and don’t last long, but if you find that you’re experiencing these problems for a longer period of time, it’s best to speak with your doctor. The more severe side effects can last only a few days but they can be also last for much longer and should be checked out by a doctor if the problem still persists in a few days after the initial treatment.

Your doctor will go over all the side effects that can be endured after Cryo Sculpting and will go over all the proper precautions so that you will get the best results without any aggravated extreme side effects.

Why is having a consultation important?

Like with any procedure, you should always get a proper consultation with a trained professional to learn more about the treatment, how it works, what the results are and what side effects can be endured. A proper consultation will allow you to speak with a doctor but also get a quick evaluation to help determine how many sessions you will need and how well the procedure will work on your given skin type and muscle mass. Be sure to work with a dermatologist who works primarily with cosmetic treatments such as Cryo Sculpting so that you get the best results possible. You want someone who is used to using treatments like this and who will be able to answer all of your questions before and after the procedure.

Will it damage tissue or organs?

Clinical trials have confirmed that fat cells are killed when placed in certain cold conditions. This is because Fat cells crystallise when exposed to cold at certain temperatures for certain periods. Fat freezing is targeted by breaking down only the fat cells whilst not impacting all the other tissue like the skin, muscle and nerve fibres in the area that is being frozen. This is because they freeze at a much lower temperature than fat cells so are not affected by the temperatures used.

What happens during the treatment?
  1. A handpiece generates a vacuum effect with the suction of skin & adipose tissue. The tissue remains fixed and isolated which allows protecting the rest of tissues and collagen.
  2. The vacuum effect decreases the blood flow at the target area, getting a more accurate and controlled cooling at the target area.
  3. The adipose tissue contacts with the cooling plates of the handle. These plates generate the cold effect until they reach the desired temperature.
  4. The treatment takes about 45-60 minutes to get maximum cell apoptosis. When the treatment is finished, the affected fatty tissue is gradually removed, through the natural metabolic process.
  5. Fat freezing handles are placed on the target area and the tissue is drawn into these handles via vacuum pressure.
  6. Due to the vacuum, blood circulation in the treatment area is temporarily interrupted.
  7. The treatment area has a separation of tissue in which fat cells have been isolated from the rest of the living / surrounding structures.
  8. The living structures have thus been protected from the extreme cold temperatures.
  9. After a minimum treatment duration of 45 minutes, the fat cells die off (crystallise) and are released into the lymphatic system where the natural metabolic process takes over and rids the body of toxins.
What areas are commonly treated for fat freezing?

Treatment is most effective in the following areas:

  • The lower abductors
  • The flanks
  • Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Bra bulges
  • Back fat
  • Flabby knees

This is not a procedure for weight loss or for people who are obese. It works best for people who have isolated pockets of resistant fat.

How many fat freezing treatments are needed?

1 to 3 treatments are needed depending on the thickness of the resistant fat. Treatments can be repeated at 45-day intervals. It can be used on all skin types and ages

When will you begin to see the results from fat freezing?

Studies showed that an average reduction of 5.3 cm which can be seen after 45 days in the treated area. The results are delayed and take from 8 weeks to 6 months to be noticeable and optimal. More than one treatment per area may be needed to achieve the desired result depending on the initial amount of fat to be reduced. The results are visible within a short time frame but a final result is usually attained after 3 to 4 months.

Fat Freezing The Treatment

Before the treatment

When the client books the treatment, ensure they have already had a consultation and discussed any concerns with their doctor.

The consultation is important to ensure the client is suitable for a fat freezing treatment. There are many things to consider to be sure it is safe and the right choice for your client.

When booking the treatment, ask them to wear comfortable clothes, which allow access to the treatment areas while maintaining the client’s modesty.

Make sure your client knows to avoid caffeine 2 hours before the treatment, and alcohol 24 hours before and after the treatment. It is also important for them to increase their daily water consumption to at least 2 litres a day before and for a week after the treatment.

Before the cryolipolysis treatment, you’ll need to have another brief consultation to remind them of the risks, side effects, and process. They will also need to sign the client consent form. You may like to offer a glass of water or herbal tea to consume during the treatment.

Your client may like to use the bathroom prior to the treatment as the process should not be interrupted and will take 35-60 minutes.

Please review the section on the consultation if you haven’t already.

Prepare the treatment room

Ensure the treatment room is ready prior to your client’s arrival. Ensure all surfaces are clean and disinfected. Provide clean towels on the treatment bed and pillows with clean covers. The pillows will be used to support the treatment head and also for the client’s comfort. It is important to check your machine is clean and disinfected and has the correct level of water. If the machine runs out of water it can cause injury to the client.

Make sure you have the correct size membrane on hand for the treatment. Never do the fat freezing treatment with a membrane that is too small or without a membrane as it protects the skin during the treatment.

The Treatment

Set the treatment time to between 35-60 minutes. It will take a minimum of 35 minutes for the fat cells to freeze and be destroyed.

In order to avoid cold damage to the skin, a precise temperature level is determined and is generally set at between minus 4 degrees and minus 10 degrees centigrade. Generally, -4 or -5 are best to begin with a new client. The fatty tissue under the skin is cooled to a point less than body temperature but just above actual freezing.

Vacuum time setting is around 2 to 3 seconds and release is about 1 to 1.5 seconds

prior to the application of the fat freezing head a membrane needs to be applied to the area. This prevents the skin from being affected by the cold.

Fat Freezing handles are placed on the target area on the membrane and the tissue is drawn into these handles via vacuum pressure. Due to the vacuum, blood circulation in the treatment area is temporarily interrupted The treatment area has a separation of tissue in which fat cells have been isolated from the rest of the living/surrounding structures The living structures have thus been protected from the extreme cold temperatures.

The client will feel cold for around 5 to 8 minutes until the area become numb.

More than one area can be treated at a time where handles are available and where comfortable for the client.

To ensure the comfort of the client use a pillow or rolled towel to support the freezing head and prevent it from tugging on the client.

The client can relax until the end of the treatment time. During this time they may watch a movie or use a device to pass the time.

Once the treatment is completed, turn off the machine and remove the treatment head and the gel pad. Use a hygienic wiped to remove the gel residue from your client skin.

The treated area may appear misshapen from being sucked into the head and cooled. This will return to normal quickly with massage.

Massage the treatment area for between 2 and 5 minutes or until the tissue reforms.

It is important the client understands the results will take time.

The results are delayed and take from 8 weeks to 6 months to be noticeable and optimal. More than one treatment per area may be needed to achieve the desired result depending on the initial amount of fat to be reduced. The results are visible within a short time frame but a final result is usually attained after 3 to 4 months.
There are a few things your clients should do before and immediately after your treatment. Importantly they need to give up alcohol (ensure they plan their social calendar accordingly) for an entire 24 hours and abstain from caffeine for 2 hours both pre and post-treatment. It’s also recommended that your client increase their water intake to at least two litres per day for a week, to ensure you’re flushing out your lymphatic system.

During the massage remind your client of the aftercare. They need to avoid caffeine for 2 hours and alcohol for 24 hours.

You may like to book another treatment for the client as generally more than one treatment is required. 1 to 3 treatments are usually needed depending on the thickness of the resistant fat. Treatments can be repeated at 45-day intervals.

Always clean the machine head thoroughly at the end of the treatment.
